Funeral services for Mr. William Bernard Gary, Jr. will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Brookland Baptist Church, Northeast, 1203 Summit Parkway. Viewing will be held Friday beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel. Surviving are his wife, Tanya Handy Gary; daughter, Whitley Handy Gary; son, Jordan Vernon Gary; brother, Brian Gary; one grandson; other loving relatives and friends.

You will be missed, my friend. God proved the doctors wrong so long ago!

Perception!

We don’t know for sure who’s right or wrong.. Sometimes we draw the wrong conclusions from our personal perceptions. Yet, we all can agree that whatever it is, the nation is divided and pulling us further apart.  What is the solution to bring us back together? Who is responsible? Is this a deliberate intent from inside/outside forces to see this nation implode? Our moral standards have already blown apart.

Mz C, Dorothy, Harold, TS Florence victims and all the sick and lost, you are in my prayers.

Make America Segregated Again!

I called up a friend of mine today after she texted me about not keeping up with my blog. My explanation was too many things to discuss and I didn’t know where to start. Her answer was simple, “Get on the job and find something!” She also said I sound depressed. Well, I’m disgusted. The party that prided themselves as the party of Lincoln and Reagan is gone. What I see is a majority who is so afraid of losing control and their position in this country and in the world that they will accept any methods, even if following the devil, to maintain it. If what I see is a repeat of the turmoil from the biblical perspective, I see a country heading towards destruction and chaos while the invisible enemy watches from the sidelines. We have an administration that is promoting enemies of the United States to high esteem and tricking us that the “fake” news is exploiting the common man while lying so much and confidently that people believes the lies as truths. How can biblical messages be used to separate families and support hatred? Here’s a quote that DOJ can use: Matt 22:36-40 (NIV) Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Apparently, no one wants to use this as a template for doing the right thing.

Christians aren’t standing up and the party is turning blind ears and eyes away from this mess. Even some of the women are taking part of making white supremacy seem more acceptable and less like the systemic racist mindset that some people have a hard time of letting go.  Some of these folks are comfortable making negative statements about other cultures and races that are offensive and mean. People don't seem to care. They must have "If it's not me or mine, why should I care" mentality.

The devil will not win and he knows it. Ephesians 6:10-13 (NIV) “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” Indeed, the battle is not ours!

We have come a long way from childhood, sitting under the old oak, wishing to get older and having our own home. No one told us as children, that being an adult was being responsible and accountable for our actions. We just wanted to be grown. Well, children, grandchildren and even a grandchild later, you left to return your heavenly home before us. We are so blessed to have known each other for 60 plus years and have seen each other this past year. We were fellow Sagittarians, born one year apart. Harold was the one born in May. Interesting enough, his birthday is coming up on the 20^th. We were the original three. We’ll miss you, Bobby! Love you! We will see each other on the other side.

I Am So Tired!

Those were the words I heard Sunday 3/18/18 from my best friend, Harold. We’ve been friends for over 55 years ever since childhood. He has been fighting brain cancer for 4 long years dealing with several surgeries, radiation and chemo. His left eye and left nostril were taken and even a part of his skull. We all thought that the last surgery on his skull would give him some pain relief. Harold normally talks until I tell him I’m getting off the phone. Well, not this time, he was in so much pain that he felt ready to leave this world.  It even pained him to talk. I didn't have much to say, one reason was that I had to strain to hear him. He had been this way all week and his body was tired.

"I am so tired" were the words my mother told me before she passed. How naive of me to think that I would ask her to lay down and get some rest. She quickened me lovingly that she meant something much deeper. Something that I had always denied to myself, that my mother would live forever. Not long after that, she passed on Monday, the day after Easter, March 24, 2008. Easter was one of her favorite holidays.  In fact, mom's 10th year anniversary will be March 24, 2018, this year.

I miss you, mom! Thank you for the wonderful years!

Silence Will Not Make You Invisible!

Has anyone noticed that in this new political climate that if a subject isn't discussed, it must not exist? Key members in the current administration have resigned due to domestic violence where the ex-wives were physically abused, but their lives“are being shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation.” Allegations? Allegations supported by court documents are no longer allegations. My fault, this comes from the person who alleged that President Obama is Kenyan. And having the gaul to expectorate due process for these abusers is absolutely pitiful. He ( The Name I Can No Longer Mention) actually encouraged division is responsible for doing the work of the Russians because his collusion with them does not exist. And if he doesn't talk about it, it didn't happen. Afterall, being silent is acceptance. Don't speak out against the wrongs happening towards others, it might happen to you. If no one else speaks out for the silent voices, don't expect anyone to speak out for you.

Respect to Rand Paul for questioning the passing of the high federal budget deal that Republicans did not want to pass under President Obama.  Hypocrisy at its finest! Or, something else? Perception or discernment?

Shame, shame, shame!

I have been more than slack in posting. I held my emotions in check because the recent political atmosphere and attitudes towards each other disrespectful and disappointing. We have a new President that seems to promote separatism and inequality. He can look a person directly in the eye and fabricate any story he wishes. What makes this worse is he expects you to believe the lie because his minions already do! No one has questioned his not showing his tax returns. Why? Didn't this same person bug out on President Obama to show his? He is supported by the party that Lincoln made and Ronald Reagan grew, yet, the party that represents the family is driving the American "family" apart. Now do you understand why I have stopped blogging, D? I'm disgusted how people can't see the distraction this man is doing to keep us away from from a possible Russian collusion. Obviously, color does matter. He has the nerve to call the Democrats "Obstructionists." Does anyone remember that the Republicans met to be that way towards President Obama? What a bunch of hypocrites!  Put the party before the country!  Echoes of past mottoes from fallen legacies! Now we seem to have senators editing signed documents. Interesting enough, the news media may not be fake but seems to fall short on follow up. Or is the Russian bots a part of this future news media? Maybe the moguls in the media are in beholding to someone like the President is and I am not talking about citizens of this country.

Buzzwords & Triggers

“Tomlin just added himself to a list of “No good (N-Word), “Another “ungrateful” black multi-millionaire, “Throw the Son of a Bitch out”, “thugs.” Wow, the more time change, the more it remains the same. These were words spoken from a fire chief, congressman, president and anyone else who want to describe certain ethnic groups. 

It is depressing to hear the same words that were spoken decades ago. Someone spread a rumor years ago that racism is dead because America elected a Black President. Others believed that a minority president will divide America. It appeared that America was off balance and out of harmony. Instead, America became more peaceful and tolerant towards others. Of course, there were pockets of hate that raised their ugly heads, but were met with peace and love.

Buzzwords and triggers. Words used by some people in position, meant to divide and destroy. Statements made that do not need apologies, because apologies would show signs of weakness. But, it was really meant to be said, the apology is for saying it out loud? There is too much negativity in the social media, news media, home and work for the sake of the dollar. It is beginning to affect us all directly and indirectly, consciously and subconsciously.

This may be a cleverly designed smokescreen to take the focus off of some of our leaders by looking for allies anywhere they can find them, even it means turning against your friends calling their bluff. (NFL Owners vs the players). You can bluff them with fear of their players, deep inside who is afraid of Robert Mueller's findings? 

I am a proud veteran of the U.S. military forces. Our brothers and sisters in arms sacrificed their lives to ensure that the Stars and Stripes wave freely. Blood was shared so that all Americans can exercise their rights freely, whether we like their demonstrations or not. But, let’s not confuse this story about the NFL disgracing the flag with equal rights. Those who have ears, listen! The words mentioned above cleverly disguise the fact that all men are still not equal. Politicians are using this confusion to pit Americans against each other. Why don’t we all take a knee and pray!

It's been a long time since I have entered anything! Once again, a lot has happened! We just returned last week from MegaFest in Dallas, TX and enjoyed the spiritual treatment we received. And yes, we walked quite a bit in downtown Dallas.

But on our return, we were met with deaths in the family, at work and with former workers. So, I'll say Rest in Peace, Larry Irby, April's uncle; rest in Peace, Evelyn Gregg, Russell's wife and; Rest in Peace, Big Country, a former resident. They will surely be missed! Please add them and their loved ones in your prayers. Shout out to Russell, a true husband all the way through!

We continue to keep Judy, Dorothy and Harold in our prayers. These are warriors and conquerors. They are truly respected.  Blessings!

Happy Birthday, Dorothy!

I surprised a friend today after her 66^th birthday and more than 56 surgeries later! For some time now, she’s been through some serious adversities and challenges, but you wouldn’t know it by her calm and peaceful demeanor. By the Grace of God, Dorothy is still standing!  Her positive attitude proves that she is standing in faith and trust that God will never leave her side.  None of us knows the reasoning of God, but we have to trust Him.  His love for us is so deep and wide that we will never understand how much He loves us.  What I do know is that God loves so much that He forgives us faster than we realize.

Dorothy looked and sounded great! We reminisced, laughed and joked. She bragged about her grandchildren looks, talents and intelligence.  I was glad I stopped by.  It was good to see her after a few years.  God bless!

Where Have I Been?

I have been slack. Events have passed and are coming up and I have been procrastinating. It's been a year since our surgery. It has been a minute or two since I took the time to tell Dorothy B and Harold N, two old school friends, that are dealing with their own personal issues, that they stay in my prayers. I have old co-workers that I will always remember but too lazy to call or even text. There are so many things happening in this nation and world that I have not even figured where to start from. I think I'm going through a slump. I'll keep you posted.

Rest In Peace, Ed Harmon!

Dr. George Edwin Harmon LEXINGTON Dr. Harmon, or Ed as he was affectionately known, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at the age of 64. He was a son of the late George and Annie Ruth Harmon. Ed was educated in the public schools of Lexington District One before enrolling at USC. After graduating from USC, he headed to Louisville, Kentucky, with his new wife to attend Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned a master's degree, followed by his doctorate, in Old Testament Studies. Ed was an ordained minister who served churches in Kentucky and South Carolina. He always said that he was called to serve and to teach, and this was evident during his 16 years on the Lexington One School Board. He was also very involved in his home church at Lexington Baptist where he taught a men's Sunday school class for many years. He was a former deacon and trombone player in the church orchestra. He had been employed with the Department of Public Safety for over 16 years. He is survived by his wife, Deb, of 42 years, and a son, Adam, who were the light of his life. Ed is also survived by brothers, Will (Lisa), David (Teresa); sister, Claire; father-in-law, Hamp Gaylord; brother-in-law, Chris (Alice); sister-in-law, Terry (Freddy), as well as many nephews, nieces and friends who already miss his quick wit, his warmth and his brilliant mind. Services will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Lexington Baptist Church with visitation starting at 12:30 p.m., prior to the service. Burial will follow in Lexington Memorial Cemetery.

My Opinion!

Each of us has our own opinion and each opinion treated with respect. The way a person feels, if explained from the heart, need to be respectful and considered from their point of view. It is important speaking civilly to each other about how they feel.

The country is separated by race, partisanship and misunderstanding and people are afraid to talk about it. Instead of having a dialogue, irrational actions and demonstrations take its place.  When I see and hear the statement “Make America great again”, I hear return to the pre-civil rights years. I grew up in that era where each race had their own places to eat, socialize and look at movies.  In fact, even public water fountains were separate, waiting rooms in public transportation was separate. At one time, there were separate hospital waiting rooms. Is this what making America great again, finding ways to stop specific groups of people from voting, rolling back the Voting Rights Act? Something is wrong and we are not talking about what is making the country uneasy. Americans should be stronger since 9/11.

After this past election, voting results were along party, gender and racial lines. No, the lines were not clear-cut some crossed because of what they heard and felt. My question again, is it because of some groups felt that they were losing their identity, control and/or security? Is it how America is viewed by the rest of the world?  Look how mean people have gotten towards each other lately. Even as a child, I remembered how people distrusted Russia and now it is time to make a deal with them.

Even as Christians, we are staunch hypocrites. Yes, I said it. We choose to forgive selectively and forget selectively. Nevertheless, we can hold a grudge selectively, too. Those of you who do practice following the Word know what I am talking about. We pick selective verses to support our argument.

This is my opinion.

Merry Christmas!

"The Family Man" Movie has a warm, loving ending especially for the holidays. Don't ask me why I got into it. Maybe it was the music, like the music in "Castaway" when Tom Hanks returned home and found out his wife remarried. What I liked was the crossroads he turned down returning the Fedex package with the angel wings. We all face crossroads that can change the course of our lives. Choices and decisions are not always easy.

The holidays can remind us of the choices and decisions we made in the past.  Some of are still living with them. Choices and decisions and affect the ones we make in our future. Think about them before you make them,

Never Forget That Day!

It was 15 years ago that 19 al-Qaeda extremists filled with hatred changed the lives and freedoms of innocent Americans. That hate destroyed nearly 3,000 lives and is still destroying lives that were connected. Many people, especially, the 1st responders are still suffering and dying due to health issues associated with being exposed to toxins saving others. Stay in prayer for the land and her people.

There is a lot to be said, but never forget that day!

I saw a lot of people on the convention floor in Cleveland with their ‘Blue Lives Matter’ rhetoric who either remained silent or actively fought against the 9/11 First Responders Bill reauthorization. I see you, and I see your...”

In Memory of...

Today is Memorial Day. A day set aside to take a moment to remember the unknown military soldiers who gave their lives for this great nation and never returned home. Some people will question why would they or they died in vain. Those that question has that right because these brave men and women did not die in vain. They died for a bigger purpose that many will never understand. We have to remember what they died for, us.

Side note: I want to include our first responders, law enforcement, EMS, the fire department personnel and all those who sacrificed their lives to keep someone else alive. The rest of you, enjoy your bar-b-que!
